Are you enslaved by trivial matters?

Here's a really good quote that complements my post on setting goals rather than those silly New Year's resolutions very nicely:

"In the absence of clearly-defined goals, we become strangely loyal to performing daily trivia until ultimately we become enslaved by it." -Robert Heinlein

So, sit down - even if it's just for 10 minutes - and set some real goals. Once you get the ball rolling and hold yourself accountable you'll see what I'm talking about.

  1. Great quote. Security practitioners have so many bases to cover and so few resources with which to do so, that it's easy to get caught up in checklist behaviors that feel like progress but truly are not.

Another quote that has made an impression on me is from Jim Camp: "If you're not working on behalf of your mission and purpose, you're working on behalf of someone else's".

  2. There's another quote (can't remember who) that says something along those lines:

"If you don't have goals for yourself you're doomed forever to achieve the goals of someone else."

    Love that one!
