InfoSec and the law is no different than general IT and general business knowledge. When I developed systems I used to tell people I had to be able to perform two jobs; mine (SDLC, development, etc) and theirs (sales, CRM, accounting, whatever) if I was to build a solution for them. Nobody understood me then but I see the parallels with security and the law.
